Self Initiated Project – Potential Clients – 28/1

Looking across the city, I have identified a number of potential clients that I am able to work for.

By offering my services to a range of companies, I am able to select one that I feel is most suited to the project and the client brief.

I have pre-selected 2 potential clients to work with.

  1. Hull Hour – A networking hour on Twitter, run by and for the people and businesses of Hull
  2. West Hull FM – A community radio station serving the west of Hull and surrounding towns and villages.

I need to identify what I am able to offer, and what they are looking for, in terms of products and content.

Today has been another day at work, and gradually getting to grips with what is expected of me at my new employer.

I’m deliberately not mentioning the new company, as per their Social Media policy!

I’m gradually getting towards 300 posts on here as well, so thank you for taking the time to read this.

Monday morning commute

I’d forgotten what it’s like to do Monday mornings to work on the train.

This is part of the promise that I’ve made and hopefully it will lead to bigger things.

Training for 2 weeks and then chucked into an academy training group.

It’s been nice to update both blogs this morning whilst listening to R Kelly.

New job starts tomorrow….

Well a new adventure starts tomorrow. I’m in training to work in a call centre, and it means that I can get some cash together over the summer, and the company have been very flexible to allow me to work part time through term time, so I can keep cash rolling in.

It’ll be nice to have something to focus on, and although i’ll be working every weekend through the term time, it means that I can start to build a nest egg for the future.  Future is something I have to focus on, work, study and keeping sane!

Job Interview

I haven’t had a job interview for ages, and to be frank, I’ve almost forgotten what it’s like!  The company that I have it with have been very flexible with my proposed working pattern, to allow me to work full time through the holidays, and work part time through term time, as long as I can commit to one evening a week, and weekends.

The extra money I will earn by doing it, will allow me to live, without dipping into my inheritance.  There will be no big parties during my studies, I want to focus on ensuring the best grade in my degree, and getting the necessary work experience which means that I can get a good job once I graduate in 2017.

I’ve used a weekly planner to make sure that I can commit to the job, and to studying 50 hours a week, both taught and home study time.  I will probably listen to every album I own during the study time, and I’ve got plenty of those to get through.

Living on my own means that I can keep track of my study, and there will be blog posts long into the night, where I am learning and reflecting on the knowledge I am getting.  I’ll be taking full advantage of the fact that University opens early, and closes late, with the days that I am in lessons, using the software and technology available to me.

All work and no play may make Jools a dull boy, but the investment of time and energy will be worth it, and I can make my friends and family proud of the work I am putting in.

During the summer

Assignment may all be handed in, but that’s not to say that things won’t be appearing on the blog.

I intend to keep busy through the summer, keeping abreast of what’s happening in the world, journalism developments, increasing my skillset, and making sure that I hit the ground running come September.

I’ll be hunting for work throughout the time off, because 17 weeks off and doing nothing will drive me crazy.

I’ve started to look again at my Teeline shorthand.  It’s not quite the same as having two taught lessons a week, and then drilling, but any skills I can refresh through the summer will stand me in good stead, ready for the next semesters.

If you have any opportunities coming up that you would like to put my way, then I would be very open to all offers, and if they are paid ones, then that’s all the better!

I think the finish is in sight…

As mentioned elsewhere, it’s been a long day today, and to be honest, I’ve survived on coffee, a chocolate bar, and lots of nicotine.

I’ve managed to get everything in a position to hand in, including my 2000 word CATS assignment, so all I have to do now is the presentation on Thursday morning, and hand everything in, so by 3pm at the latest, it’ll all be done and dusted, and then back to enjoy a little glass of something to reflect on the year, and start reading up for next year.

I just hope that my fellow class members crack on tomorrow with their work in my absence, and get as much done as possible with what is now a free day.  I know they have it in them to nail a day like I’ve had today, and go forward to Thursday, better prepared for the deadlines.

Right, home, dinner, shower and bed for me, it’s been a proper rollercoaster today, but it’s done, and I can start again in the morning.

Year 2 – Preparation Work

I am looking forward to getting the preparation work for the second year, so that I can be getting on with it nice and early.

As I’ve alluded to elsewhere, I want to keep the balance between work and fun firmly in the latter, 17 weeks is a long time, and I hope that by getting the preparation done early, I can enjoy the summer, and recharge the batteries ready for September.

Hopefully, things will come together pretty soon, in terms of job hunting, and cash coming in.  There is also the little matter of my houses selling, and paying off my debts, to be finally clear of the anxiety that it causes me.

I’m going to have a little glass of wine in a while, raising a glass to very important people in my life that have kept me going through thick and thin, and also to my parents, who I hope are looking down and can see the hard work I’ve put in since September, and that they are beaming with pride.

I’m only sorry that they won’t be there in 2017 for my graduation, but I feel their presence every day, and that drives me on to do the best that I can.

Thinking of the Summer

Ah yes, June, July, August and a bit of September…

The long days, bright sunshine, chilling by the pool….

Or not…To be honest, through the summer, I will be having a couple of weeks off, but in all seriousness, I really need to get a job for the summer, to get some pennies into the coffers, and if I can do that and get relevant experience in Journalism and Digital Media, then all the better.

Uni is expensive, and student finance doesn’t go all the way, so building a battle fund is my priority for the summer!!
